SIOUX CITY -- Gene H. Crawford, 81, of Sioux City died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011 at Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen, Iowa, after a prolonged illness. Services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2011 at Morningside Bible Church, with the Rev. Terry Embke officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels. Gene was born Aug. 19, 1930 in Sioux City. He was the son of Harry and Myrtle (Downer) Crawford. He attended Concord No. 9 Country School and East High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Gene married Marion I. Norr on Dec. 31, 1949 in Sioux City. He was the night manager of Dividend Gas Station before going to work for IPS (now Mid-American Energy). He retired from IPS after working there for many years. He then did volunteer work at the Sergeant Floyd Welcome Center. He was a member of Morningside Bible Church and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Gene was an antique car enthusiast and had restored many Model T's. He was a member of the Siouxland Antique Car Club and taught neighborhood youth about cars. Gene is survived by his wife, Marion "Inetz" Crawford of Sioux City; a daughter, Linda L. Phillips and her husband, Andy of Hornick, Iowa; a grandson, Robert Reed of Sioux City; a sister, Bonnie Jonas and her husband, Richard of Sioux City; a daughter-in-law, Barb Hardy of Des Moines, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews including his nephew, Greg Crawford. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Crawford; a granddaughter, Danette Crawford; a brother, Charles Crawford and his wife, Ruth. Pallbearers will be Gary Janssen, Larry Janssen, Jeff Janssen, Rob Shultz, Jeff Collins and Gary Uehling. Memorials may be made in his name to Morningside Bible Church or Hospice of Siouxland.
