Anita Marie McInerney

Anita Marie Aust McInerney, 91 of Sioux City, IA passed away Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Bickford Memory Care. Services will be 7:00 p.m. today, September 16, 2011 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Visitation with the family present will be 6:00-9:00 p.m. today at the funeral home. Additional services will follow in Rothesay, New Brunswick, Canada with burial in Saint John, NB, Canada. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com . Anita was born February 20, 1920, in London, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Blanche Marie Girardot and William Charles Aust. After graduating from high school, she trained as a laboratory technician at St. Joseph's Hospital in London. She moved to Toronto, Ontario and worked at the Toronto General Hospital, becoming Chief Laboratory Technician there. She married Dr. James P. McInerney in Toronto on April 14th, 1956. They resided in Saint John, and Riverside, New Brunswick. Dr. McInerney died in 1992, after a long and distinguished career as a physician and surgeon. Anita was a homemaker with many interests. She won the provincial ladies' curling championship and represented New Brunswick with her curling team in 1964. She was a member of St. Andrew's Curling Club. She served as Ladies' President of the Union Club in Saint John and Riverside Golf and Country Club, Riverside, NB. She was an enthusiastic gardener, and spent many hours in her lovely garden. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and was involved in volunteering and support of her parish, particularly Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Rothesay, NB. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City. Anita moved to Sioux City, Iowa in 2009 due to failing health, and was a resident of Bickford Memory Care until her death. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers Edward G. Aust of Montreal, Canada and William P. Aust of Toronto, Canada; her infant daughter, Jane Paula; and her husband. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Dr. Elizabeth McInerney and her son-in -law Dr. Mark Johnston, of Sioux City, IA; by her grandsons, James Johnston, of London, England, and David Johnston, of Ames, IA, and her granddaughter Emily Johnston, of Sioux City. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Siouxland, the Alzheimer's Association, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, Rothesay, NB, or the Dr. James P. and Anita McInerney Fund of the Saint John Foundation.
