SIOUX CITY -- Jean P. (Kutil) Walburn, 85, of Sioux City died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Riverside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Charles Wolff officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Jean was born in Sioux City on Oct. 19, 1925, the daughter of Frank and Dora (Abelson) Kutil. She graduated from Central High School in 1944. After graduation, she worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 38 years. She married Richard Walburn on Sept. 2, 1950. He died on May 10, 2006. The couple were members of Riverside Lutheran Church, where she joined the quilting club. She was a volunteer at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center for several years. She and Richard volunteered for many years at the Community Theater, doing maintenance work and anything else that was needed. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and was president of the association for one year. A group of telephone girls formed a club and met monthly starting in the 1940s and continued until her stroke in January. Survivors include her caregivers, niece and nephew, Penny and Bill Crosmer of Sioux City and their daughters and grandchildren, Dr. Janie Crosmer and Scott Clifford and Kaitlyn Clifford of Flower Mound, Texas, Lori and Cory Schlotfeldt and Connor and Whitney Scholtfeldt of Sioux City; sisters, Shirlee (Gale) Holmes of Des Moines, Frances Johnson of North Sioux City; niece, Diana (Loren) Parks of Chico, Calif.; nephew, Dale (Linda) of Long Beach, Calif.; niece, Pamela Miller of Glenpool, Okla.; niece, Jennifer (Joe) Gardner of West Des Moines; niece, Paula (Kim) Rosenboom of Le Mars, Iowa; nephew, Marty (Lois) of Sioux City; niece, Pandora Dahle of Mission, Kan. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents, Frank and Dora Kutil; and a sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Bob Bourret. Pallbearers will be Bill Bauerly, Connor Schlotfeldt, Cory Schlotfeldt, Kim Rosenboom, Marty Holmes and Scott Clifford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Hospice of Siouxland in Jean's name.
