Geneva C. Nielsen

Geneva C. Nielsen, 86 of Sioux City, formerly of Hornick, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, IA. Funeral Services will be at 12:00 noon on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Avenue, with Pastor Catie Newman officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. today Wednesday, August 31st with family present at 6:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com Geneva was born on June 22, 1925 in Hartington, Nebraska to Alfred and Mabel (Hansen) Olsen. She received her education in Obert, Nebraska before her marriage to Carroll Jens Nielsen on January 15, 1945 in San Pedra, California, while Carroll was serving in the Marine Corp. The family lived in various towns around the Sioux City area. Geneva worked at the Zenith plant, the cookie factory and various nursing homes as a Certified Nurses Assistant and a loving and caring caregiver. Geneva is survived by her children Bob Nielsen of Westfield, IA, Judy Wriedt and her husband LaVoy of Jefferson, SD, Peggy Hilton and her husband Robert of Elk Point, SD, Michaelene "Mickey" Trail of Hornick, Iowa, Danny Nielsen and his wife Julie of Holly Springs, IA, Michael Nielsen and his wife Linda of Lebanon, IN, and Pamela Langley of Sioux City; 27 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and her special dog Baby. Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carroll in 1993, daughter Nancy, granddaughter Debra Gates, daughter-in-law Carole, and brothers Leroy and Harold Olsen. The family wishes to express a special "thank you" to Dr. Garred Jr. and the Pleasant View staff for the excellent care given to Geneva.
