Robert Bruce "Bob" Campbell, 83 of Sioux City, IA died Sunday, July 24, 2011 at a local hospital after a brief illness. Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2011 at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military graveside rites. Bob was born March 27, 1928 in Milwaukee, WI and grew up in La Crosse, WI. He served with the U.S. Navy during WWII in the European Theater. After his discharge he served in the Navy Reserve, but was called back to active duty because of the Korean Conflict. In 1954 he made his home in Sioux City and was first employed by Roe Dairy and then at Palmer Candy for many years. He also worked at St. Luke's Medical Center for several years. He was a member of the American Legion #342 of Lincoln, NE and the D.A.V. Bob enjoyed fishing, especially with his brother and was an avid Cubs fan. Survivors include a daughter, Evangeline "Angie" Thacker, a granddaughter, Mitra Ditto and 2 grandchildren, Kyla and Taya Ditto all of Adamsville, TN; 6 siblings, Carol Provancha and her husband, George of Huntsville, AL, Soupy Campbell of Yuma, AZ, Lily Nieman of South Sioux City, NE, Charlene Nelson and her husband, Gary of Sioux City, David Campbell of Hodges, SC and Gloria Asch and her husband, Ron of Lincoln, NE; a sister-in-law, Carmen Campbell of Bremerton, WA; nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Lily (Jacques) Campbell, 2 brothers, Jim and Dick and Dick's wife, Beatrice.
