SIOUX CITY -- Maggie (Marguerite) Elaine Prescott, 81, of Sioux City died Thursday, July 28, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital, after a brief illness. Abiding by her wishes, the body was cremated. A memorial celebration will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, under the ministry of Morningside Lutheran Church. Interment will be at a later date in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Maggie was born May 29, 1930, in Laurel, Neb., to Ernest and Ida (Scheer) Urwiler. She graduated from Laurel High School, attended Wayne State College and ultimately graduated from Morningside College with a teaching degree. She taught in South Sioux City until her retirement. She married George E. Prescott on Nov. 27, 1952, in Coleridge, Neb., and was forever after his "straight man." George died July 3, 2009. She was an animal lover and rescued many cats. Her favorite foods were chocolate and bacon in that order. She was a very dear friend to many and very loved. Left to cherish her memory and the lifetime of memories she created with them are her four children, Susan Hunter (Jim) of Las Vegas, Nev., Daryl Lewis of Des Moines, Iowa, David Prescott (Valerie) of Sioux City, and Mary Harley (Robert) of Carlsbad, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Clint Lewis, Tiffany LaPato (Mike), Aaron Prescott, Nicholas Prescott (Anna), Christopher Barragato, Erik Hunter, Cheyenne Barragato and Michael Monson; four great-grandchildren; and her feline companion, Vinnie. She is also survived by her brother, Daryle Urwiler (Darlene), and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her brother, Armin Urwiler. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Siouxland Humane Society.
