SIOUX CITY -- Patricia I. Hanson, 87, of Sioux City died Sunday, July 24, 2011, at Touchstone Living Center after a short illness. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Cathedral of the Epiphany Catholic Church, with the Rev. William J. Vit Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Online condolences may be submitted at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Pat was born May 17, 1924, in Luverne, Minn., the daughter of Patrick and Clara (Hassler) Ryan. She grew up on a farm near Luverne and graduated from Luverne High School. She attended St. Theresa's College in Winona, Minn. She came to Sioux City in 1943 and worked for McKessen's. She married Earl V. Hanson on April 19, 1947, in Luverne. He died March 17, 2007, in Sioux City. Pat was a stay-at-home mom until 1985, when she began working for the Chancery Office of the Diocese of Sioux City. She worked there until she retired. She continued to volunteer at Cathedral of the Epiphany. She was a longtime member of Cathedral of the Epiphany and the Confraternity, where she was treasurer for several years. Pat enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, knitting, needle work, playing cards and dominoes and having lunch or dinner with friends. Survivors include six children, Mark Hanson of Sioux City, Carol (John) Crayne of New Berlin, Wis., Jane (Alex) Marcovich of Sioux City, Teresa (Dan) Mahr of Topeka, Kan., Lori (Kevin) Homan of Chillicothe, Mo., and David (DeAnn) Hanson of Leawood, Kan.; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; a grandson, Christopher Mahr; two brothers, Bob and Bill Ryan; and three sisters, Beatrice Burns, Joan Mallett and Barbara Johnson. Pallbearers will be Tony Marcovich, Todd Hanson, Troy Hanson, Josh Doyle, Brad Crayne and Matt Crayne. Honorary pallbearer will be William Hanson. Memorials may be directed to Cathedral of the Epiphany.
