SIOUX CITY -- Michael J. Birdsell Jr., 23, of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 18, 2011, at a local hospital due to injuries suffered in a construction accident. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2011 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Ring officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Michael was born June 23, 1988, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Michael and Christine (Garlock) Birdsell. He graduated from North High School in 2006, and attended Western Iowa Tech Community College with the automotive technician program, graduating in 2008. Michael then was offered a job at Sioux City Engineering. He married Carrie Webb on Nov. 1, 2008, in Sioux City. Michael loved to work on cars, hunt, and race, but his greatest love was fishing with his son. Survivors include his wife, Carrie Webb-Birdsell of Sioux City; their son, Perry, and a special baby on the way; Michael's mother and father, Christine and Michael Birdsell Sr. of Sioux City; two brothers, Charles Birdsell and Thomas Daniels, both of Sioux City; parents-in-law, Jeff and Stacey Webb and Shyla and Donnie Jones; grandmother, Mathilda Garlock; seven brothers- and sisters-in-law, Jamie, Jeffrey, Josh, Jordan, Christopher, Travis, and Amber; a niece, Emma Jo; and numerous cousins, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his three grandfathers, William Birdsell, Audry Garlock, and Hap Hightower; one grandmother, Dorothy Hightower; and one aunt, Michelle Vangorp. Pallbearers will be Dave Brown, Mark Walden, Chad Moyle, Jamie Ryan Jr., Jeffrey Webb Jr., and Josh Ryan. Honorary pallbearers will be Jordan Webb, Jeffery Webb Sr., Michael Birdsell Sr., and Tyler Kesby. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
