Dixie Rae Hegarty

SIOUX CITY -- Dixie Rae Hegarty, 66, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, July 17, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital, comforted by family. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James Travis as officiant. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, with the family present at 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Dixie was born March 7, 1945, in Sioux City, to Wayne and Fern (Frerichs) Betsworth. She received her education in the Sioux City Public Schools, graduating from Leeds High with the class of 1963. She married Robert Hegarty on April 3, 1967, in Dakota City. Dixie worked at numerous banks in Sioux City, including Livestock National and Security National before the family moved to Colorado in 1980, where she worked for the First National Bank of Englewood. In 1989, the family returned to Sioux City and Dixie worked for Gateway until her disability forced her retirement in 1997. She was a proud member of Calvary Lutheran Church, being extremely active within the church, including the BAG-a-lunch program for children, various volunteered positions, and her Birthday Card Ministries, which she was proud to uphold each month to church members. She enjoyed fishing, and spending time with her family. Dixie is survived by her husband, Robert, of Sioux City; son, Sean Hegarty of Correctionville, Iowa; daughters, Kerry Cushing and her husband, Michael, and their child, Kayla, of Denver, Colo., and Molly Petersen and her husband, Mark, of Correctionville; brothers, Bary Betsworth and his wife, Mary Ann, and Jeff Betsworth and his wife, Joni, all of Sioux City; and sister, Carolyn Kowalke of Philadelphia, Pa. Dixie was preceded in death by her parents; and grandson, Cedric Hueschen.
