Richard C. "Dick" Speck, 79, of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home. Funeral mass for Dick will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2011 at Cathedral of the Epiphany Catholic Church with Rev. Brent Lingle officiating. Interment of cremains will be in the Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Dick was born on October 30, 1931 to Wm and Eva Mae (Kaiser) Speck. He was a member of the first graduating class from Bishop Heelan Catholic High School in 1950. Dick was married to Joyce I. Henry on June 18, 1955 in Sioux City. She preceded him in death on June 27, 2003 in Sioux City. Dick worked as a meat packer for Armour and Co., although his passion was softball in which he spent all his free time devoting his expertise to pitching for the sport. He helped coach softball for numerous years for Briar Cliff University, Bishop Heelan and West High Schools. He was also an avid golfer. Dick was a member of Cathedral of the Epiphany Catholic Church where he helped as a Eucharistic Minister. He is survived by his son T.J. Speck of Spirit Lake, IA; and 2 daughters Sherri Speck of Skokie, IL and Kelli Speck of Glenview, IL; a grandson Ben Kuznets-Speck; and a brother Gerald (Wanda) Speck of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother Elroy Speck and 3 sisters Dorothy Connelly, Arlene Brouillette and Lorena Prince. Pallbearers will be Terry Prince, Terry Speck, Rich Speck, Ben Kuznets-Speck, Tom Brouillette, and Fred Mersch.
