Glen "Pete" M. Calvert, 82 of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 27, 2011 at a local Sioux City Hospital. Funeral services for Pete will be on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church with Rev. Ralph Shorey officiating with Military graveside rites to follow by the 185th Air Refueling Wing Base Honor Guard at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Pete was born on January 11, 1929 in Newcastle, NE to Harry and Edith Lillian (Reichardt) Calvert. After graduating from Newcastle High School he entered into a life long service to his country starting with the U.S. Army in 1951 stationed in Korea. He was released in 1953 and joined the Iowa Air National Guard and serving with them until his retirement in 1984 as a Master Sergeant. During his enlistment in the Guard he was activated for the Viet Nam war and Pueblo Crisis. After his retirement in 1984 he went to work for Northern Auto Parts for 15 years. He was married to Mary Lou Stallbaum on April 23, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Martinsburg, NE. They lived their married life in Sioux City. His wife preceded him in death on May 19, 2001 in Sioux City. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church since 1961 where he served as an Elder, on the Board of Trustees and the Stewardship Committee. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.
