SIOUX CITY -- Larry R. Smith, 63, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Sunday, June 12, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Military rites will be conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Larry was born Sept. 15, 1947, in Sioux City, the son of Robert and Marjorie (Boettger) Smith. He lived on a farm near Merrill, Iowa, while growing up. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was employed as a crane operator for Sioux City Compressed Steel for the last 22 years. Larry spent 22 years of his life with Diane Harper, who died in August 2010. For the last six months, he had been with Diane Beagle. Larry had been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his son, Jason Smith of Los Angeles, Calif.; his special friend, Diane Beagle of Sioux City; Curtis Harper of Sioux City; and a brother, Darwin Smith and his wife, Sally of Le Mars, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents.
