SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Douglas W. Archer, 57, of South Sioux City passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011, at home surrounded by his wife and family. Cremation has taken place. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Nelson Berger Northside Chapel in Sioux City. The eulogy will be given by his loving wife, Kimberly. Doug was born Oct. 23, 1953, at the family home in Ravenna, Neb., the son of Clinton W. and Donna L. (Smith) Archer. He grew up and attended school in Ravenna. He joined the U.S. Army when he was 17. Doug obtained his GED in the military. After his discharge, he was employed with BNSF Railroad in Alliance, Neb. He later moved to Lincoln, Neb., to work as a security guard. Doug moved to Sioux City and was employed as a carpenter. Doug married Kimberly J. Demeter on May 19, 1995, in Elk Point, S.D. They made their home in South Sioux City where they found true happiness with their pets. Doug enjoyed woodworking, playing darts, remote control toys, motorcycle riding, fishing and other outdoor activities. He will always be remembered for his love of Dr. Pepper -- he even drank it hot with a cinnamon stick in it. Doug was known for his big heart and was always helping others. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and particularly liked being around and teasing kids. Survivors include his wife, Kimberly of South Sioux City; his daughter, Amber Archer of Sioux City; brothers, David (Linda) Archer of Harrah, Okla., and Don Archer of Euless, Texas; a sister, Debra (Gerald) Reimers of Ravenna; his grandmother, Margaret Coffin of Shelby, Neb.; stepfather, Gene and Judy Sherbeck of Ravenna; parents-in-law, Ronnie and Billie Demeter of Sioux City; nieces and nephews, Ashley Tejeda, Jerad Reimers, Brett Reimers, Evan Archer and special niece, Cassidy Demeter; and a great-niece and great-nephew, Lily Archer and Corbin Willie Tejeda. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; an uncle, Jim Smith; an aunt, Lela Larson; and a brother-in-law, James Demeter.
