Daniel Anfelt Duncan Sr., 55, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 10, 2011 at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Reverend John Pehrson and Reverend Steve Ziebarth officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel from 4-8 P.M. with family present from 6-8 P.M. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Daniel was born November 12, 1955 in Sioux City, the son of Robert F. and Dolores E. (Thorp) Duncan. Daniel graduated from North High School in 1973 and Morningside College in 1976. Daniel began his teaching career at Immaculate Conception before taking a job at West Monona where he met his future wife. Daniel also worked for the Sioux City Community School District from 1978 until his retirement in 2000. Daniel married Janette L. Irwin on July 1, 1978 in Roswell, SD. She preceded him in death on May 19, 2008 in Sioux City. Daniel was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed coaching baseball at North High School from 1979 to 1983. Upon retiring from coaching he began broadcasting local high school sporting events on the radio. He also loved playing golf and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. He is survived by his sons: Robert Lesley Duncan and Daniel Anfelt Duncan Jr. both of Sioux City; a brother Robert LeRoy Duncan and his wife Cindy of Sioux City; a sister Pamela S. Morfitt and her husband Jay of Scottsdale, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Dolores and his wife Janette. Pallbearers will be Bill Hanson, Curt Sluyter, Mike Stapleton, Steve McLagan, Wayne Prostrollo, and Alex Prostrollo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Siouxland or the Siouxland Humane Society.
