SIOUX CITY -- Joe I Meyers, 83, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Touchstone Living Center following a brief illness. Abiding by Joe's wishes, he has been cremated. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be a gathering of family and friends with refreshments served from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Joe was born Feb. 4, 1928, in Ponca, Neb., the son of Milton and Alberta (Enders) Meyers. He grew up and attended school in Ponca. Joe was an over-the-road truck driver for many years. On March 19, 1949, he married Lorraine "Jane" Hurley in South Sioux City. She died Oct. 6, 2006, in Sioux City. Joe was an avid animal lover and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a Shriner for many years. Survivors include a son, Doug Meyers and his wife, Judy of Sioux City; a daughter, Joanne Meyers of Concord, Calif.; two brothers, Jack Meyers and his wife, Nancy of San Jose, Calif., and Paul Meyers of Fayetteville, N.C.; three sisters, Joy Russell of Sioux City, Jenny Conrad and her husband, Leon of Ponca, and Inga Rasmussen of Barstow, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Roger Bostwick of Ponca; three grandchildren, Kim, Katie and Brett Meyers; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jane; two brothers, Creighton Meyers and Melvin Meyers; two brothers-in-law, Bob Russell and Al Rasmussen; a sister-in-law, Karen Meyers. Joe's sister, Sharon Bostwick just passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2011. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Siouxland Humane Society.
