David K. DeVries

February 28, 1930 — May 14, 2011

SIOUX CITY -- David K. DeVries, 81, of Sioux City passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at a local hospital. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. David was born the son of Charles and Ann (Fiekema) DeVries on Feb. 28, 1930, in Larchwood, Iowa. He graduated from Larchwood High School in 1948. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. David married Alice Jean Morris on Dec. 9, 1978. After their marriage, Jean moved to St. Louis, Mo., where they lived until moving to Sioux City after their retirement. Dave owned and operated several dry cleaning businesses in the St. Louis area and was in the dry cleaning industry for more than 50 years. He enjoyed RV traveling with Jean, spending his winters in southern Florida, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Dave was a true history buff. He knew the facts of the cities he would visit, to the point of surprising even the locals with things they did not even know. He enjoyed visiting with all, and will be greatly missed. David is survived by his wife, Alice Jean of Sioux City; three sons, David (Diana) Wrenn of Sioux City, Steven (Barb) DeVries of St. Peters, Mo., and Richard Wrenn III of Sioux City; one brother, Lyle DeVries of Sioux Falls, S.D.; one brother-in-law, Tom (Mona) Morris of Charlottesville, N.C.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Jean; and one niece, Angie. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society.
