Irene M. Schwarte

Irene M. Schwarte, 93, of Sioux City passed away on Monday, May 16, 2011 at Westwood Nursing Home. Funeral services for Irene will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Tess Panamarow officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangments. Irene was born on May 17, 1917 to Agusta Ohlquist in Wakefield, NE. She graduated from Wakefield High School. Irene married Frank Schwarte on May 16, 1951 in Sioux City. He preceded her in death in September of 1972. She was a homemaker and mother to 3 children. Irene enjoyed her family, making crafts, playing bingo, gardening, shopping, ballroom dancing and her cats. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Irene is survived by her son Joe (Lott) Schwarte of Salix; daughter Nancy (Thomas) Zimmerman of Colorado Springs, CO; and her son Ronald (Theresa) Schwarte of Sioux City; 9 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Alvin and a sister Inez.
