William L. "Bill" Zemanek, 82, of Westfield, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at his residence, following a long illness.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2008, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. The body will be cremated, and there will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
William was born Oct. 25, 1925, in Sioux City, to William J. and Lucille (Bourett) Zemanek. Bill grew up in Sioux City and attended Sacred Heart Grade School. He graduated from Trinity High School in 1943. Bill served as a merchant seaman in the South Pacific during World War II.
He married Jean Nussbaum in October of 1950, in Le Mars, Iowa. After the service, Bill joined his father in the family business, Zemanek's Fine Foods. He continued in the business until it was sold to his son, James, in 1973. Bill then retired to the farm in Westfield.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jean of Westfield; four sons, James Zemanek and his wife, Relda of Hinton, Iowa, Robert Zemanek of Anchorage, Alaska, Thomas Zemanek of Mason City, Iowa, and Patrick Zemanek and his wife, Diane of Tenakee Springs, Alaska; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
