SIOUX CITY -- Marilyn June Zediker, 80, of Sioux City passed away on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home, surrounded by her loving family.

Abiding by her wishes, cremation will take place and graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, September 24, 2009 in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Marilyn was born June 29, 1929, in Sioux City, to Florabelle and Ted Graves. She graduated from East High School in 1947. Marilyn was married to Thomas Gill Sr. and had two daughters and three sons. She was later married to Joe Hummel. She was united in marriage to Lou Zediker in 1978. Lou died on Sept. 20, 2004.

During her high school years, Marilyn worked as an usher for the Orpheum Theater. She was employed by several local nightclubs in the Siouxland area and owned and operated Jo-Mar's Bar and Lounge in South Sioux City. For 31 years, she also owned and operated Lou's Midway Bar and Lounge in Merrill, Iowa. Marilyn was active in the Merrill community and supported several business events and charitable organizations.

Marilyn was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, who loved her family with a great and unconditional love. Her family's happiness was always her highest priority. She enjoyed nature in all forms and loved working in her yard and garden for many years. Marilyn found great pleasure in reading novels of varied subject matter and was always searching to expand her knowledge. Her Catholic faith was very important to her and she found great comfort in belonging to the Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill and attending daily Mass and the Rosary at Holy Spirit Retirement Home's chapel.

Those survivors left to cherish their memory of Marilyn include her children, Gloria (Brian) Lewis of Antioch, Calif., Thomas (Deb) Gill of Springfield, Va., Russell Gill and Joe Gill of Sioux City, and Debra (Giles) Green of Sergeant Bluff; brothers, Ted (Jackie) Graves of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and George Graves of Iowa City, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister; husbands; a grandson; and her beloved dog, Pepper.

Memorials in her name may be sent to the American Cancer Society and Hospice of Siouxland.
