Dolores E. Zant

Delores "Dee" Zant, 71, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2006 in Sioux City. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 8, 2006 from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2006 also at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with The Very Reverend Paul Louis-Arts officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Dee was born July 4, 1934, to Nels and Johanna (Swedlund) Olson in Sioux City. She grew up and attended school in Sioux City, graduating from Central High School. She also attended nursing school.

She married Clarence Whitmore, then Dale Casey. She then married the love of her life, Joseph Zant, on Jan. 23, 1979, in North Sioux City. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City and the South Sioux City area.

Dee was past vice president and president of the South Sioux City Eagles Auxiliary. She took care of numerous foster children and also did day care for years out of her home.

Survivors include her children, Clarence Whitmore Jr. and wife, Cindy, Louise Verbeski, George (Mike) Whitmore, Vicky Whitmore and Warren Whitmore and wife, Suzie, all of Sioux City and Susan Hirschberg and husband, Jim of Lohrville, Iowa; numerous stepchildren; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ernie Olson and Victor Switzer; and four sisters, Ruby Ehlers, Hazel Eastman, Idabell Thompson and Grace Williams.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; three sons, LeRoy and Allan Whitmore and Ben Zant; a daughter, Toni Jo Zant; a grandchild, Jessica Whitmore; a great-grandchild, Hailey Cook; and three brothers, Albert Kjos, Roy and Elmer Olson.

Pallbearers will be Junior Whitmore, Chad Whitmore, Warren Whitmore. Jim Hirschberg, Gary Cook, Travis Aye and Jimmy McCabe.
