Richard Carl Youngren, 69, of Sioux City died Sunday, June 22, 2008, at his residence following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Sunnybrook Community Church, with the Rev. Sam Todd officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Richard Carl "Dick" Youngren was born March 27, 1939, in Emerson, Neb., the son of Carl H. and Anna M. (Rejman) Youngren. He grew up in Emerson and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from 1958 to 1961. He attended two years of college.
He married Debra (Sexton) Ehmen on May 20, 1994 in Elk Point, S.D. He was an electrician foreman for IBP and retired after 30 years of service.
He was a member of the American Legion Morningside Post 729 and the River City Anglers Club. He enjoyed camping, golfing and building model airplanes, ships and cars. He also enjoyed photography and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Deb of Sioux City; five children, Teresa Waterbury of South Sioux City, Carey and her husband, Sammy Keener of Pryor, Okla., Jerod Ehmen of Sioux City, Devan Ring of Sioux City and Nick Youngren of Sioux City; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Harold.
Pallbearers will be Bob Puterbaugh, Tom Buckholtz, Terry Hamilton, Sid Porter, Larry Dwyer and Gary Wiese. Honorary pallbearer will be Jerry Anderson.
