Lyle Thomas Tom Young, 66 of Sioux City, passed away Friday, January 1, 2010 at Casa de Paz Nursing Home. Abiding by family wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday evening, January 4, 2010 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with a Memorial Service to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Tom was born on November 20, 1943 in Homer, Nebraska to Lyle and Eleanor (Longwell) Young. He graduated with the Class of 1961 from Walthill, Nebraska. Tom spent his young adult years in Homer and moved to Sioux City in 1974. He was a route driver for Farner-Bocken Company before being the plant operator for Nutra Flo. Tom was also a Sioux City Night Patrol before his disability required him to leave the workforce. He enjoyed listening to music, watching television, talking on his citizens band radio, playing bingo, and raising fish and birds. Tom was a constant giver of time and support to his friends at Casa de Paz, where he felt at home. He was a former member of the Western Iowa Rabbit Breeders Association and a proud member of Whitfield United Methodist Church. Tom will be dearly missed by Dustin, David, Thomas, Karena, and Kayla.
Tom is survived by his son Doug Young and his wife Tina of Sioux City; brother Darrell Young and his wife Bea of Sioux City; sisters Marilyn Jacobsen and her husband Robert of rural Homer, Nebraska and Linda Roschewski and her husband Gerald of Fremont, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Donna Young.
