Madonna Elaine Yates of Sioux City died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Riverside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Charles Wolff officiating. Burial will be in Elk Point Cemetery, Elk Point, S.D. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Madonna was born June 16, 1922, in rural Jefferson, S.D., the daughter of George William and Laura Marie (Loker) Kneebone. She attended Elk Point High School.
She married Herb Yates in 1959 in South Dakota. She owned and operated the Knotty Keg Bar in Westfield, Iowa. After retirement, the couple moved to Florida. Herb passed away in 1984 in Sioux City. She later married Richard Pegg Genung in 1988, in Florida. Richard passed away in 2004 in Michigan.
She was a member of Riverside Lutheran Church. She enjoyed sewing, doing crafts and traveling the United States.
Survivors include a son, LeRoy (Shirlee) Rosenbaum of Sioux City; two daughters, Betty Whitted of Santa Ana, Calif., and Dieanna (Wendell) Powell of Trent, S.D.; a brother, George (Gloma) Kneebone of rural Jefferson, S.D.; two sisters, Betty Wheelock of Sioux City and Blanch (Otis) Derochie of Jefferson, S.D.; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; and two brothers, Clarence and Roy Kneebone.
