Chester E. Woodley

Chester Chick E. Woodley, 88, of Sioux City, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2008, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2008, from 4-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2008, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Reverend Janice Bennett officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Chester was born on May 9, 1920, in Merrill, Iowa to David and Fannie (Simmons) Woodley. He grew up in the Merrill community and graduated from Merrill High School. He was inducted into the United States Army on February 21, 1942 in Fort Des Moines, Iowa. Chester served in the South Pacific Theatre during W.W.II. He was honorably discharged on January 23, 1944. Upon his return to Sioux City, Chester worked as a carpenter for various home builders in the area.

Chester married Irene Breckner on May 4, 1946, in Sioux City; to this union 5 children were born.

Chester enjoyed golfing at Elk Point, Bowling where he scored a perfect 300, fishing and hunting.

He is survived by 4 daughters, Linda & Jim Olson of Sioux City, Vicki & Lonnie Beck of Minneapolis, MN, Deb Kellen of Sioux City, and Kim Keiss of Albuquerque, NM, 12 grandchildren, Rusty, Jeni, Nikki, Jamie, Stephanie, Ryan, Matthew, Breanna, Lyndsay, Jordan, Tara and Tony, 12 great grandchildren, 1 sister, Beverly & Warren Livengood, and a brother-in-law, Bob Lanagan.

Chester was preceded in death by his parents, son Rick Woodley, 9 brothers and sisters, Ora Tullis, Erma Kelly, Marjorie Eberhart, Doris Clark, Merlin Woodley, Leone Leet-Wright, Milo Woodley, Elwin Woodley, and Joyce Lanagan, 2 grandchildren, Courtney Greiner and Jay Keiss.

His daughters and family would like to thank everyone at Holy Spirit Retirement Home for the love, care and kindness shown to our Dad and Grandpa. Special thanks to Hospice of Siouxland for their support during this difficult time.
