Iona F. Wood, 69, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, in Sioux City following a courageous battle with cancer.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2008 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill Muller of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Iona F. Wood was born Jan. 31, 1939, in Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mina (Henricksen) Olson. She attended school in Dixon County, Neb.
She married Raymond Wood on Jan. 21, 1967 in South Sioux City. She worked for American Dry Cleaners and Mid-Step Services as a cook for 14 years, retiring in 2004.
She loved to shop and collecting Elvis memorabilia, butterflies and things dealing with owls. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Raymond Wood Sr.; her daughter and her husband, Jean and Allen Schneider of Sioux City; five sons and their wives, Carl Lubben of Sioux City, Alan and Marlis Lubben of Sioux City, Raymond and Carrie Wood Jr. of Sioux City, Brian and Lori Wood of Dakota Dunes and Jason and Kim Wood of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren, Michael, Kayla, Samantha, Jessica, Joshua, Zachary, Kyle, Lorissa, Alexander and Brandon; a great-grandchild, Crystian; five brothers, Merlin Olson of Sioux City, Ronnie Olson of Le Mars, Iowa, James Olson and his wife, Sheryl of Sioux City, Dale Olson and his wife, Brenda of Sioux City and Vern Olson of Sioux City; a stepbrother, Raymond Olson of Corpus Christi, Texas; a half sister, Margaret Henricksen of San Antonio; a special niece and her husband, Kay and David Carpenter; and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mina Olson; a brother, Jerry Olson; a stepbrother, Henry "Hank" Olson; and a half sister, Edith Houston.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Olson, Dale Olson, James Olson, Tyler Riedmann, Jery Pearson and Billy Holbrook. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren who loved and cherished their grandmother.
