SIOUX CITY -- Kenneth Wittkamp, 92, of Sioux City died Monday, April 26, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.
Abiding by Mr. Wittkamp's wishes, there will be no services. The body was cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to meyerbroschapels.com.
Kenneth Wittkamp was born Aug. 15, 1917, in Marathon, Iowa. He was raised by his father, Arthur Wittkamp and his stepmother, Mary. He lived in Cherokee, Iowa, from about 1920 to 1937.
He married Lotus Barnes on Nov. 30, 1939, in Marcus, Iowa. He was employed with F.W. Woolworth Co. for six and one half years in Cherokee, Sioux City, Cedar Rapids and Davenport, Iowa and Janesville, Wis.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served from 1943 to 1945 in the return of the Philippines, then was sent to Japan with the Occupation Forces. After returning from the service, he worked at Davidson Department Store in Sioux City, then Grayson's Men's Store for 29 years. Later, he was employed at Karlton's Men's Store for 10 years until his retirement in 1984.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. 615, Scottish Rite the Abu Bekr Shrine and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1973 in Sioux City. He was also active as a volunteer and auxiliary member of St. Luke's Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Lotus of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Leanard.
