SIOUX CITY -- Elva Dell Windles, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at Bickford Cottage on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, surrounded by family.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Avenue, with the Rev. Dave Denzer officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service on Saturday morning at the funeral home.

Dell was born Elva Dell Clevinger on July 14, 1926, in Morton, Wash., the first child of Brad and Florence Clevinger, sister to Gerald Clevinger and Beverly Harrington.

She was married on April 7, 1945, to Charles Windles in Olympia, Wash., where she worked at the capital and her husband was in the U.S. Navy. They settled in Kosmos, Wash., to begin their family. In 1948, they moved to Bandon, Ore., to expand their family logging business. Dell spent her life raising her family, which was her greatest joy. The importance of family carried over to her neighbors and many special friends. In 1963, they moved to Sioux City, where her husband was born along with his 12 other siblings, to help care for his parents.

Dell was notorious for her fabulous cooking. She loved sewing, crossword puzzles, playing cards and gardening. As a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was unfailingly supportive and encouraging. All her caregivers experienced her extraordinary power to transmit the abundant love, kindness and generosity of spirit she has shown her family and treasured friends throughout her life.

Dell is survived by her husband of 66 years, Charles of Sioux City; son, Don Windles and his wife, Sue of Sioux City; daughter, Donna Lobur and her husband, Michael of San Diego, Calif.; sister, Beverly Harrington of Bandon, Ore.; sister-in-law, Joyce of Henderson, Nev.; grandchildren, Jeff, Tracy, Nicole, and Scott; and nine great-grandchildren.

Dell was preceded in death by her mothers Florence and Hope, father Brad and brother Gerald.

Memorials can be made to Pacific Community Church, 48967 Highway 101, Bandon, OR. 97411 or Hospice of Siouxland.

Dell, your family loves you and promises to carry on your legacy with honor and love.
