Ronald P. White. 66, of Sioux City died Monday, June 25, 2007, at his residence following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Ron was born July 16, 1940, in Sioux City, the son of Paul and Arlene (Axemaker) White. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Heelan High School in 1958. He attended Iowa State University. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962.
He married Sandy O'Brien on June 5, 1971, in St. Joseph, Iowa. He worked for W.J. Company for 25 years and for the U.S. Post Office for 20 years.
He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, fishing, bowling and playing softball for Rightmeier's Tap. He coached softball and basketball. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and served as an usher and lay minister. He also served in the pastoral council.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy of Sioux City; four children, Molly Sue and her husband, Pete Sysum of Bothell, Wash., Charles White of Sheldon, Iowa, Jaclyn and her husband, Kyle Kelly of Dakota Dunes, S.D., and Thomas White of Dubuque, Iowa; his mother, Arlene White of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Robert and Mary White of Sioux City; five sisters, Suzi and her husband, Dennis Doyle of Mill Valley, Calif., Kathy and her husband, Steve Ashby of Scottsdale, Ariz., Marcy Hoban of Brookings, S.D., Debra and her husband, Scott Russell of Sioux City and Cindy Anderson of Bentonville, Ark.; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Rachel Sysum; and a sister-in-law, Colleen White of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his father; and two brothers, James and Michael.
Pallbearers will be Steve, Richard, Brad and Kevin White, Jason Anderson and Alex Ashby. Honorary pallbearers will be Lloyd and Lois Rohmiller, Richard and Marian Hall, Tom and Cathe Brunken, Jerry and Barb Reicks, Jerry Mertz and Dick and Judy VanMeter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
