Lloyd Morten Wendel, 82 of Sioux City passed away on August 7, 2008 at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, NE. Memorial graveside services for Lloyd will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Scott Squires officiating.
Lloyd Morten Wendel was born in Laurel, Nebraska on December 3, 1925 to John and Edith (Webb) Wendel. He grew up on a farm in Cedar County and graduated from Laurel High School in 1943.
In 1945, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in South Korea. He married Mary Lou Stingley and they had four children, Richard, Greg, Kathy and Terry. They farmed northeast of Dixon from 1950 to 1971, when they moved into Laurel. Lloyd was a salesman for T & W Tire in Sioux City, Iowa from 1971 until he retired. He married Janet (Gile) Peyton on July 16, 1977. He remained active through his retirement. He moved to Hastings, Nebraska in May 2008.
Lloyd is survived by two sons, Richard and wife Rhonda of Hastings and Greg and wife Teri of Norfolk; a daughter, Kathy Ryder and husband Kevin of Lincoln, and a stepson Gary Peyton of Fayetteville, Arkansas; 8 grandchildren, Becky Wendel Carpenter (husband Bryan) of Columbus; Ryan Wendel, Joshua, Cole and Ashley Ryder of Lincoln; Brooke Wendel Greenough (husband Joe) and Holly Wendel of Norfolk; Ross Wendel of Omaha; 2 step-grandchildren, Mike Peyton (wife Nicole) and Melinda Peyton (husband Virgil) Schmit of Dell Rapids, South Dakota; 5 great-grandchildren, Breanna, MaKenna and Kamille Carpenter; Mason and Ava Greenough; and 4 step-great-grandchildren; Sydnee and Anna Schmit; Dayne and Ty Peyton; a sister Dorothy Bayne of Decatur, Georgia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife Janet, son Terry, stepson Keith Peyton, sister Iola Schwarm and brother George Wendel.
