Mildred G. Wells

SIOUX CITY -- Mildred G. Wells, 88, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, following a brief illness surrounded by her family.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. R. Paul Johnston officiating. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Mildred was born Aug. 29, 1921, to Oscar and Anna (Ericson) Johnson in Johnson Township, Plymouth County, Iowa. She graduated from Akron High School and was a music major at Morningside College.

Mildred married Clifford H. Wells in Colorado Springs, Colo. Clifford passed away Nov. 21, 1986, in Sioux City. Mildred worked for the city of Sioux City as a bookkeeper in the police department and retired in 1986.

She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1942, and was involved in church circle, choir and was a Sunday school teacher. She was an avid bowler and golfer. Mildred was a member of the Sioux City Duplicate Bridge Club and a Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League. She once played Duplicate Bridge with Warren Buffett and Bill Gates; she and her partner won.

Mildred is survived by two sons, Allan Wells and his wife, Kaylene of Sioux City, and Greg Wells and his wife, Kathryn of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandsons, David Wells and his wife, Connie of Topeka, Kan., and Daniel Wells and his wife, Kristin of Kansas City, Mo.; two great-grandsons, Cole and Connor Wells of Topeka; and a sister, Lillian Benson of Omaha.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Gustave Johnson and Lloyd Johnson; and a sister, Christine Terry.
