Norman D. Welch, 84, of Sioux City died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at his residence following a lengthy illness, with his wife and children at his side.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Tom LoVan officiating. Private family graveside services will be at a later date in Graceland Park Cemetery, with military conducted by the U.S. Navy. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Norman D. Welch was born Feb. 14, 1926, in Sioux City, the son of Clair and Esther (Thorngren) Welch. He graduated from East High School and the University of South Dakota.
He married Arlyne Reynders on May 3, 1952. He worked his entire career as an electrical engineer.
He was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Arlyne; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Reynders; sons, Randall Welch and family of Rockford, Ill., Dennis Welch and family of Gilbert, Ariz., Scott Welch and family of Lakewood, Colo., and Gregg Welch and family of Woodstock, Ill.; a daughter, Robin Baril and family of Crookston, Minn.; a stepdaughter, Vicki Hanson and family of Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren;and three great-grandchildren.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to Hospice of Siouxland or Morningside Lutheran Church library.
He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
