Mary L. Welch

December 3, 1941 — April 17, 2007

Mary L. Welch, 65, of Sioux City passed away following a brief illness Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital surrounded by her family.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James A. Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Mary was born Dec. 3, 1941, in Vermillion, S.D., the daughter of Earl and Eliane (Bertrand) Bruyer. She graduated from high school in Vermillion and attended the National Business Training College in Sioux City.

She married Larry M. Welch on Oct. 10, 1964, in Vermillion. Shortly after, the couple moved to Sioux City. She had been employed at the Siouxland Blood Bank for several years prior to retiring in 2005.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading and was known for her homemade bread and beef jerky. She also was an avid shopper. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her mother, Eliane Bertrand of Elk Point, S.D.; three children and their families, Anne Lutgen of Ennis, Mont., Larry Welch and his wife, Kim and their children, Nolan, Olivia and Jacob of Hinton, Iowa, and Laurie and her husband, Shawn Emge and their daughter, Shaila of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her father, Earl; and a brother, Jack Bruyer.

Pallbearers will be Rick Pridie, Mike Welch, Bob Heien, Ron Davis, Larry Bruyer and Randy Brunken.
