Donald G. Weaver

February 20, 1926 — January 30, 2010

SIOUX CITY -- Donald G. Weaver, 83, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.

Abiding by his wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Harold E. Werley officiating. Private graveside services will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Visitation with the family will be at the church one hour prior to the service and during the luncheon to follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Donald was born on Feb. 20, 1926, in Oacoma, S.D., to Omer and Ila (Eisentraut) Weaver. He was raised and graduated from high school in Moville, Iowa, before he moved to Sioux City and attended Morningside College for three years.

In 1949, Donald married Delores M. Gray and to this 26-year union four children were born. Donald began his 23-year career with Swift and Company as a pipefitter in 1946, and continued with the Local 33, completing his career in heavy construction in 1988. Beginning in 1996, Donald enjoyed his winter months in Mission, Texas, returning to Sioux City each spring.

Donald was a performing musician for 25 years, playing country and western guitar. He had a keen interest in restoring automobiles, especially custom Chevrolets. He was instrumental in the urban renewal process of Downtown East in the 1970's, culminating with the creation of Mid-City Park in 1985. Don was well-traveled and well-read, maintaining a lifelong interest in history as well as current events.

Donald is survived by his daughter, Linda W. Beacham and her husband, Mike of Lincoln, Neb.; sons, Douglas M. Weaver and his wife, Garnett of Omaha, Lance M. Weaver of Poway, Calif., and Bruce A. Weaver of Sioux City; ex-wife, Delores M. Weaver; loving and loyal companion of 19 years, Phyllis N. Clayton of Mission, Texas; six grandchildren, Megan Riechmann and her husband, Brad, Stephanie Weaver, Jennifer Weaver, Steven Weaver, Zachary Weaver, and Amber Weaver; and great-grandchild, Eliot Riechmann.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents.
