Lebert N. Watterson Jr., 81, of Sioux City died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at his residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at Riverside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Chuck Wolff officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Lebert was born March 1, 1927, in Kirklin, Indiana the son of Lebert and Mary Belle (Terill) Watterson Sr. He attended Sioux City schools and served in the U.S. Army.
He married Marlis D. Cooper on Feb. 16, 1951, in Sioux City. She died May 20, 2004 in Sioux City. He retired from the Big Sioux Terminal.
He was a member of Riverside Lutheran Church. He enjoyed woodworking. The couple cared for more than 160 infant foster children in their home. They also made more than 2,100 quilts, donating them to adoptive parents, the police department and various other service organizations.
Survivors include five sons and their wives, Dave and Cathrin Watterson, Jim and Kathy Watterson and Don and Cathy Watterson, all of Sioux City, Jerry and Kim Watterson of North Sioux City and Larry and Debbie Watterson of Sioux City; four sisters, Nellie Mae Keairns of Sioux City, Roberta Thiele of Sioux City, Mary Ellen Irish of Sun City, Ariz., and Judy Watterson of Davenport, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Marlis, Andrea, Jennifer, Theresa, Shayla, Kelsey, Todd, Wyatt, Steven, Bryon, Jeff and Danny; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lee Watterson; and three sisters, Wanetta Schultz, LaVerne Carlson and Dorothy Adams.
Pallbearers will be Dave, Jim, Don, Jerry, Larry and Kathy Watterson.
