Ellen LaVonne Rose

SIOUX CITY -- Ellen LaVonne Rose, 85, of Sioux City passed away Friday, April 8, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 7 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2011 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Matthew Miller officiating. Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Ellen was born May 12, 1925, in rural Sioux City, the daughter of Carl and Nanette (Swedberg) Olson. She graduated from Lawton High School in 1942.

She married Eldon E. Rose on Aug. 26, 1945, in Santa Fe, N.M. Ellen owned and operated the cafe in Salix, Iowa, for a few years and also worked for Woolco Department Store.

She was a member of the Willing Workers Club. Ellen enjoyed sewing and cooking, but most of all, spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Survivors include three children, Penny (Rose) Redenius and her husband, Ed of South Sioux City, Pamela (Rose) Kroll and her husband, David of Sioux City, and Douglas Rose and his wife, Charla of Sioux City; one brother, Bob Olson and his wife, Barbara of Elkmount, Ala.; one sister, Vivian Comstock of Omaha; 12 grandchildren, Nan (Irey) Stettnichs and her husband, Rod, Bill Irey and his wife, Deb, Bob Irey, Jenny (Kroll) Linton and her husband, Mike, Stacey (Kroll) Massarello and her husband, Jack, Kim Rose and Brandon Swift, Janice (Rose) Staber and her husband, Pat, Russell Kroll, Chris Redenius and wife, Stephanie, Karen (Kroll) Bailey and her husband, Brandon, Beth (Rose) Bondar and her husband, Anton, Chuck Rose and Stephanie Krier; 19 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nanette and Carl; brothers, Harold and Ralph; and sisters, Esther, Carol, June, Ruth, Nadine and Marilyn.
