Lester B. Rolfes

June 23, 1933 — January 9, 2007

Lester B. Rolfes, 73, of Hinton died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at Plymouth Manor Nursing Home in Le Mars, Iowa.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Leo Kostizen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Casper Post 477. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Lester was born June 23, 1933, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Ben and Caroline (Ruether) Rolfes. He attended school in Le Mars. He served his country during the Korean Conflict, receiving the Good Conduct Medal.

He was married to Connie Pounds in 1958. To this union, three children were born. He later married Phyllis Dierking in 1971. To this union, four children were born. Phyllis passed away in 1995 in Sioux City.

He was a foreman for Tri-State Millwork. He also was a fork lift operator for Hawkeye Building Supply and Cameron Ashley Building Supply.

He enjoyed carpentry, woodworking and model trains. He enjoyed bowling and received many trophies. He enjoyed playing church league softball and was an avid fan of the Hinton girls basketball. He will be missed by his coffee drinking buddies at Ampride Gas Station in Hinton. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Hinton American Legion Casper Post 477.

Survivors include six children, Terry (Kristy) Rolfes of Sioux City, Leslie (Lisa) Rolfes of Sioux City, Jason (fiancee Tiffany) Rolfes of Sioux City, Candy (Dan) Steichen of Le Mars, Iowa, Aaron (Stacy) Rolfes of Le Mars and Jodie (Tom) Mullally of Le Mars; three brothers, Arnold Rolfes of Maurice, Iowa, Leonard (Colleen) Rolfes of Le Mars and Lawrence Rolfes of Le Mars; a sister, Sister Dorothy Rolfes of Dubuque, Iowa; and 13 grandchildren, Amber, Austin, Kelsey, Aaron, Kylie, Dane, Jessica, Stormii, Danielle, Hannah, Erica, Jacob, JT and one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis; a daughter, Cindy; and three brothers, Elmer, Andy and Bernard.
