SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Shirley J. Robinette, 74, of South Sioux City died peacefully Sunday, March 16, 2008, at her residence following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008 at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Jerry Gilbreath officiating. Private graveside services will be in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Shirley was born May 22, 1933, in Homer, Neb., the daughter of Antone and Mildred (Garner) Ernest. She was a lifelong South Sioux City resident. She graduated from South Sioux City High School in May 1950.

She married the love of her life, James E. "Jim" Robinette on July 21, 1950, in South Sioux City. He died Sept. 14, 2003, in Sioux City. She worked for Metz Baking Co. and retired from Northwest Bell Telephone Co., where she worked for more than 20 years.

She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church. She took pride in her children and grandchildren. She loved watching all of them play sports whether it was baseball, soccer, softball, volleyball, football, golf or basketball. From babies to teens to adults, she loved them all. She also enjoyed cooking and gardening.

Survivors include two children and their spouses, Rick and Joan Robinette of South Sioux City and Pam and Russ McComsey of Oxford, Pa.; a sister and her husband, Saundra and Bernard Crowe of South Sioux City; six grandchildren, Zach McComsey, Michael Robinette, Katie and her husband, Ryan Kock, Casey McComsey, Ashley Robinette and Amy Robinette; three great-grandchildren, Caden Kock, Ali Kock and Bryleigh Robinette; two nieces and their husbands, Toni and Steve Cronin and Tracy and Joe Keefer; and a nephew and his wife, Patrick and Lora Crowe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; and a brother, Bernard Ernest.
