SIOUX CITY -- Paul E. Roberts, 48, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be noon Friday, February 26, 2010 at Crescent Park United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Scott Squires officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to meyerbroschapels.com.

Paul was born May 12, 1961, in Sioux City, the son of George Paul and Katie (Eaton) Roberts. He graduated from West High School and Briar Cliff College. He received a teaching degree from Morningside College.

Paul was a multifaceted person. He was in productions at Lamb Theatre and the Sioux City Community Theatre. He had a variety of jobs during his life. He most recently was employed by Western Iowa Tech Community College as a teacher and at Jones Street Station.

He was very active at Crescent Park United Methodist Church. He was the organist there for many years. He also was the choir director, soloist, chairman of the Turkey Dinner, helped make peanut brittle and was in charge of the Christmas In July Celebration.

Paul and his mother, Katie, were foster parents for teenage boys for more than 20 years, forming many lasting relationships. He was known for his extreme generosity, whether it was giving of his time, his money or his love and friendship.

Survivors include his mother, Katie of Sioux City; his sisters, Kimberlee Gerritsen and her husband, Randy of Holstein, Iowa, Wendy Livings and her husband, Randy of Sioux City, Jill Hansen of Clovis, Calif., Vera Schneider of Iowa City, Iowa; his brothers, Clayton Roberts of Sioux City, David Roberts and his fiancee, Missy of Claycomo, Mo., Fred Key of Deltona, Fla., Terry Schrank and his wife, Lisa of Omaha; Steven Evans and his wife, Stacey of Kansas City, Mo.; nieces and nephews, Jeremy and Anne Gerritsen, Torre and Sydney Gerritsen, Kiley and Jenny Gerritsen, Maude Livings, Richard Livings, Robert Livings, Blake Steadham, Logan Roberts; aunts and uncles, Marcella Roberts of Sioux City, Don and Peggy Roberts of Sioux City, Jim and Sharon Roberts of Ankeny, Iowa, Dorothy and Harold Lockmiller of Sioux City, Sally Smith of Pierson, Iowa, Tom and Marieanne Eaton of Albuquerque, N.M., Jerry and Aggie Eaton of Sioux City; his foster children, Jon Grandorff and his girlfriend, Megan Robertson of Sioux City, Jesse Gaul and Mark Beltran, both of Sioux City, Leland Williams of Waverly, Iowa; the entire congregation of Crescent Park United Methodist Church; and his very close friends, Marla Luitjens of Sioux City and Alonso Alvarez of Wayne, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his father, George; a sister, Rebecca Roberts; grandparents, Frank and Mabel Roberts and William and Geraldine Eaton; an uncle, Tom Roberts; and an aunt, Mary Jo Schneider.

Memorials may be made in his name to United Methodist Church Camp in Okoboji, Iowa in care of Crescent Park United Methodist Church.
