SIOUX CITY -- Gilbert "Gil" Roberts, 61, of Sioux City passed away suddenly from a heart attack Sunday, May 2, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James Travis officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Gil was born April 15, 1949, in Sioux City, to William and Henrietta (Huisman) Roberts. He attended Leeds High School. He served his country with the U.S. Army.

He was married to Lynette Loebsack on Dec. 3, 1971, in Sioux City. He was employed with John Morrell for 30 years until the closing of the plant three weeks ago.

He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, camping, caring for his lawn and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Lynette Roberts of Sioux City; a daughter, Nicole (Brian) Christiansen of Jefferson, S.D.; two grandchildren, Jordan and Kylie; a brother, Jerry (Elaine) Roberts of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Duane Cole, Darwin Roberts and Ralph Roberts; two sisters, Corrine Mini and June Hopp; and a grandson, Chase.
