Kermit W. Ritchison, 73, of Sioux City, died on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at a local hospital. Graveside services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Graceland Park Cemetery with Reverend Roger Madden officiating. Nelson ~ Berger Northside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Kermit was born on July 11, 1935 in Sioux City to Paul and Edna (Leach) Ritchison. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools.
Kermit enlisted into the United States Navy after school. He married Kay Heller in 1955 while stationed in Mississippi. He was honorably discharged on November 3, 1967. While in the Navy he was a cook and later worked in the commissary at Port Hueneme in Oxnard, CA.
The couple returned to Sioux City 16 years ago to be closer to family. Kermit enjoyed collecting sports cards and watching baseball. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends.
Kermit is survived by his wife Kay of Sioux City, son, Brad Ritchison of Seattle, WA, daughter, Linda Anderson and her husband Kenneth of Sioux City, 5 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren, 3 brothers, Kenny Ritchison, Jerry Ritchison and wife Judy, and Doyle Ritchison all of Sioux City, 1 sister, Ionia Rasmussen and husband Ronald of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, sister, Iris Ritchison and a sister-in-law, Janice Ritchison.
