SIOUX CITY -- Ronald E. Rietz, 77, of Sioux City died Jan. 20, 2010, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Siouxland.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Ron was born to Earl and Helen (Mailander) Rietz on Winona, Minn., on May 10, 1932. He graduated from Cotter High School and St. Mary's College in Winona. He served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He married Dorothy Stockhausen on Aug. 31, 1957, in Rollingstone, Minn. He began working for Cargill Inc. in Minneapolis in 1959. He continued with them after moving to Sioux City in 1972, working as an office manager and grain merchant until his retirement in 1993.
He belonged to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was a member of the Over 55 Club, Knights of Columbus and was head usher of the church for many years. He and his friend, Jim Kuhl, delivered Meals on Wheels.
Ron is survived by his wife, Dorothy Rietz of Sioux City; a son, Mike (Lisa) Rietz of St. Louis, Mo., and their daughters, Rachel (Mike) Whaley and Katie Rietz; a son, Dan (Linda) Rietz of Eagan, Minn., and their sons, Adam and Ben; a daughter, Lori (Jeff) Rymerson of Sioux Falls, S.D., and their children, Ashley (Matt) Keyser, Justin Pins, Dylan, Peyton and Erin Rymerson; a daughter, Kathy (John) Koeser of Sioux City, and their children, David, Matthew and Nicki; a son, Tim (Jeri) Rietz of Des Moines, and their children, Jacob and Ellison; a son, Jeff (Stacey) Rietz of Sioux Falls, and their children, Madison and Nathan; his brother, Chuck (Marion) Rinn; a sister, Ann Salberg; several nieces and nephews; and brothers-in-law, Joe Wise and John Finerty.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; stepfather, Ed Rinn; and sisters, Shirley Wise and Margaret Finerty.
