SIOUX CITY -- Allen F. Riessen, 77, of Sioux City died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kenny Hsu officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Steven Benson officiating, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.
Mr. Riessen was born Oct. 18, 1932, in Schleswig, Iowa, the son of John and Dora (Willer) Riessen. He had lived in Sioux City since 1948, where he graduated from Sioux City Central High School. He served with the U.S. Army from Jan. 19, 1953, to Dec. 30, 1954.
He was united in marriage to Marlene Albers on Nov. 22, 1963, in Battle Creek, Iowa. She preceded him in death on Dec. 21, 1985, in Sioux City. He was employed with Interbake Foods for 42 years, retiring in 1994.
In his free time, he helped with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He loved watching basketball and auto racing. He was a Jeff Gordon fan. He also sold tickets at Roberts Stadium. Most of all, he loved spending time with his friends at the Fairmont Apartment Senior Center.
Survivors include four sons, Jeff Riessen and his wife, Karen of Hudson, S.D., Dennis Riessen and his wife, Twila of Sioux City, Rodney Riessen and his wife, Lynn of Somerville, Tenn., and Kevin Riessen of Sioux City; a brother, Donald Riessen of Ida Grove, Iowa; four grandchildren, Maria Riessen, Scott Riessen, Melissa Riessen and Chase Riessen; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a sister, Betty and her husband, Arnold Connelly; a sister-in-law, Janet Riessen; and a brother-in-law, Lowell Albers.
Memorials may be made in his name to the Senior Center at the Fairmont Apartments.
