Josephine A. Richer, 77, of Sioux City died Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at a Sioux City hospital with her family at her side, following a sudden illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Josephine was born July 22, 1929 in Sioux City, the daughter of Louis and Angelina (DeFazio) Tierno and was a life-long resident. She attended St. Joseph Grade School, Woodrow Wilson and Central High School. She married Charles Richer on April 10, 1948 in Sioux City. He died Feb. 8, 2002 in Sioux City.
Josephine worked for T.S. Martin Department Store and then for Coopers Market for over 30 years. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, golfing, playing cards and going to Lake Okoboji. She was an avid sports fan. Josephine was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America.
Survivors include two sons Al Richer and his wife Trish of Sioux City and Mike Richer and his wife Laurie of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; six grandchildren, Corrie Richer, Charles Richer, Chad Duncan, Chris Duncan, Amber George and Alllyson Thoma; a sister-in-law Marc Ludwig and her husband Dan and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Rose Rose, Mary Meisch and Catherine Walding; one brother Dominic Tierno and a daughter-in-law, Linda Richer and a nephew Jim "Rocco" Rodriguez.
Casketbearers will be Tim King, Chris King, Dan Rodriguez, Larry Backman, Mike Backman and Mike Timblim.
A memorial has been established in her name.
