Elsie Marie Rhoten

Elsie Marie Rhoten, 84, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Covenant Church, with the Rev. Michael Zabel officiating. Graveside services will be noon Tuesday in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Elsie Marie was born Feb. 8, 1922, in Sioux City, a daughter of David and Agnes (Linn) Erickson. She graduated from Central High School in 1940.

She married Myron Wesley Rhoten on April 13, 1943, in Sioux City. He died Dec. 26, 1999, in Sioux City. After their marriage, the couple lived in Milwaukee, Wis. In 1956, they moved to England and lived there for 20 years. They returned to Milwaukee and then back to Sioux City in 1975.

She was a member of First Covenant Church. Elsie enjoyed traveling, knitting, sewing and drinking tea.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Barb and Don Goode of Brainerd, Minn.; a brother and his wife, Malcolm and Darlene Erickson of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Virginia and Robert Broline of Seattle, Wash.; two grandchildren, Kim Olson and her husband, Tom of Sioux City and Kevin Goode of Brainerd, Minn.; two great-granddaughters, Alycia Goode and Kelsie Olson; nieces and nephews; and longtime best friends, Helen and Doug Nordstrom of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister; and a brother and his wife.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Goode, Donald Goode, Tom Olson, Denny Boulden, Myron Erickson and Dennis Tevis. Honorary pallbearers will be Malcolm Erickson, Doug Nordstrom and Robert Broline.

The family would like to thank the staff at North Park Senior Living Community, Hospice of Siouxland and the Cancer Center for their professional care and genuine concern.

Memorials may be made in Elsie's name to Hospice of Siouxland, First Covenant Church and the American Cancer Society.
