Walter V. Rhodman

Walter V. "Walt" Rhodman, 70, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital following a long battle with cancer.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with Chaplain Lorna Peters officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Smithland Cemetery, Smithland, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Walt was born Sept. 3, 1936, in McGregor, Minn., the son of Kermit and Zora May (Isom) Rhodman.

He married Betty McGarry on Elk Point, S.D. He worked as a mechanic for Farmer's Co-op and H&I Grain. He also worked as a heavy equipment operator, retiring from W.A. Klinger. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in South Sioux City and the Operating Engineers Union 234. He loved to "junk," take long drives on the back roads, fish, play cards and was an avid NASCAR fan.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Rhodman of Sioux City; his sons, Leland Rhodman and his wife, Tammy of Sioux City, Mike Rhodman and his wife, Tami of Sioux City, Mark McGarry of Sioux City and George McGarry and his partner, Brandon Frasch of Sioux City; daughters, Mary and her husband, Joe Kahler of Tennessee, Rebecca and her husband, Sam Moore of West Virginia, Theresa and her husband, Mike Holst of Lawton, Iowa, Cindy McGarry and her husband, Clarence White of Sioux Falls, S.D., and two daughters in Oregon; brothers, Roy Rhodman of Texas, and Elvin Rhodman and his wife, Pat of Missouri; sisters, Marie VonMinden of Sioux Falls, S.D., Lavern Kraft of Sac City, Iowa, and Marilyn and her husband, Larry Mahler of Sac City; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lucille Kraft; a brother, Norman Rhodman; a baby daughter, Julie Rhodman; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Kraft and Dedrick VonMinden; and two wives, Judy and Birdelin.

In lieu of flowers, all donations will be given to Hospice of Siouxland.
