SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Loraine B. Reifenrath, 86, of South Sioux City passed away Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, at Regency Square Care Center after a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Dan Wittrock officiating. Burial will be in Laurel (NE) City Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 7 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Condolences may be sent online to {M7meyerbroschapels.com.

Loraine was born Aug. 25, 1922, in Laurel, Neb., the daughter of Fred and Bertha (Marthwig) Rohde. She attended Sunny Stop Country School near Laurel and Ponca High School. On Feb. 12, 1942, she married Raymond J. Reifenrath in Hartington, Neb. The couple first lived in Hartington, Neb., and then farmed for a short time near Jackson, Neb., until they bought a house in Jackson. Raymond died in October of 1976 near Ponca, Neb.

Loraine moved to South Sioux City in 1977. She worked in housekeeping for Howard Johnson Hotel from 1977 until she retired in 1989. She also cleaned the St. Patricks Church in Jackson. She baby-sat for several families as well as her own grandkids.

Loraine loved country music, Husker football, baseball and her grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, attending concerts, plays and events with her friends, yard work and snow sledding. Loraine was involved in all of the activities for the residents at Regency. She was a member of St. Michael's Church.

She is survived by five children, Teresa and her husband, Jerry Asmussen of Moville, Iowa, Frank and his wife, Debbie of Guernsey, Wyo., Vincent and his wife, Janie of Persia, Iowa, Margaret and her husband, Roy King of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, and Michele and her husband, Mike Loos of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two daughters-in-law, Bobbie of Laurel, Neb., and Sherrie of Dakota Dunes; two brothers, Pierce Rohde of Hartington, Neb., and John Rohde and his wife, Joan of Mason City, Neb.; three sisters, Doris Christensen of Lincoln, Neb., Velma Leonard of Altoona, Pa., and LaRoyce Kollbaum and her husband, Ed of Omaha, Neb.; 22 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Fred and Raymond Jr.; two sisters, Ruth McCaw and Lucille Crombie; and a brother, Raymond Rohde.

Pallbearers will be Ryan and Dustin Loos, Fritz and Justin Reifenrath, Jerry Alan Asmussen and Greg Marek. Honorary pallbearers will be Jennifer Loos, Teresa and Tina King, Rick and Ray Reifenrath III, Dawn Tift, LaVaille Reifenrath, Megan Hughes, Erin Bell-Reifenrath and Vincent Reifenrath Jr.

Diane Fawcett, Laura Mauszycki, Marcia Marek and several great-grandchildren will be participating in the visitation and funeral service.
