Luella Rose Reese

Luella "Rose" Reese, 73, of Sioux City died Feb. 18, 2010, at her home.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Randy Knuth of Hope Lutheran Church of South Sioux City officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. today, with the family present 4 to 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 5 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Luella was born April 22, 1936, in Sioux City, to John J. Sr. and Dorothy (Fowler) Saltzman. She married John S. Reese Sr. on Sept. 5, 1953, in South Sioux City. He preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1983. Luella was employed at the Old Hawkeye Club as a cook and later was employed at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, retiring after 28 years.

She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in South Sioux City. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and family. She also loved to eat at Harvey's Restaurant and cooking for the family at holidays. When given the chance, she loved to travel as well as fishing with the grandkids and kids. She especially enjoyed her dog, Zack, her companion, in addition to her son's dog, Buffy.

Survivors include a son, John S. Reese Jr. of Sioux City; a daughter, Gwen Reese and special friend, Ron Eberly of Sioux City; grandchildren, John S. Reese III, Jeff R. Reese and Britni Williams and husband, Bobbie, all of Sioux City, and Jared Combs and wife, Rhiannon of Mason City, Iowa; six great-grandchildren, Ashley Thomas, Karsen White, Daqri Combs, Jax Combs, Nicole Combs, Brody Williams and Bentley Williams; four brothers, John J. Saltzman and wife, Ginny of Emerson, Neb., Thomas Saltzman and wife, Pat of North Sioux City, Martin Santee of South Sioux City, and Jim Santee and wife, Theresa; a sister, Betty Laumbach and husband, Dave; a brother-in-law, Jim Reese and wife, Betty of Sioux City; and a sister-in-law, Kate Bliven of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Jeremy; and two infant brothers.
