Donald V. Rasmussen

SIOUX CITY -- Donald V. Rasmussen, 90, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at Countryside Senior Living surrounded by his family.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, November 28, 2008 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Craig J. Bock officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.

Don was born Dec. 19, 1917, near Marcus, Iowa, the son of Hans and Margrethe (Laursen) Rasmussen. He graduated from Marcus High School in 1935. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II, stationed in Chicago.

He married Irene Wisner on Sept. 20, 1952, in Sioux City. He received a business degree and worked as a personnel director for Armour's. He then worked as an accountant for APAR Brokerage until his retirement in 1983. He also did the billing for his son's construction company, Rasmussen Builders.

He enjoyed collecting coins, hunting with his metal detector and going to his grandkids' activities. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards and horseshoes. His greatest love was spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Rasmussen; sons, Dean and his wife, Patty of Ventura, Calif., John and his fiancee, Kelli Erickson of Sioux City, Dave and his wife, Nancy of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Chris and his wife, Sandra of Sioux City; daughters, Carla and her husband, Mike Starkey of Omaha and Evie Rasmussen of Sioux City; grandchildren, Heather, Stephanie and Amy of Ventura, Sara and Jill of Sioux Falls, Kristy, Eric, Kiley and Cory of Sioux City and Brian and Jason of Sioux City; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Eleanor Brady of Marcus, Iowa, and Margaret and her husband, Doyle Simonsen of Quimby, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Carl, Harry and Max Rasmussen; and a sister, Evelyn Peterson.

Pallbearers will be Eric Rasmussen, Cory Rasmussen, Dan Wisner, Dennis Wisner, Mike Starkey and Kevin Heeney. Honorary pallbearers will be Kristy Rasmussen, Sara Rasmussen, Jill Rasmussen, Kiley Rasmussen, Heather Rasmussen, Stephanie Rasmussen, Amy Marcum, Brian Rasmussen and Jason Rasmussen.
