SIOUX CITY -- Helen E. Raasch, 95, of Sioux City went to see her heavenly father on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Sunrise Retirement Community.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2010 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Hsu officiating. Private graveside services will be Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Condolences may be sent online to meyerbroschapels.com.
Helen was born March 21, 1914, in Sioux City, the daughter of Edward and Pearl (Salsberry) Kuklentz. She grew up in Sioux City and attended St. Paul's Lutheran School. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City.
She married Herman H. Raasch on Aug. 29, 1931, in Elk Point, S.D. He died Jan. 8, 1975, in Sioux City. Helen worked at Fairmont Creamery, Sioux City Battery Co. and then for 20 years as an elevator operator at Younkers Department Store.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Women's League and helped with the large print edition of My Devotion at the church.
She enjoyed league bowling, fishing, gardening and yard work. She was a NASCAR fan of Jeff Gordon and a fan of the Chicago Cubs. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include two grandsons, Mark Raasch and his wife, Joy and their children, Jason and Kyle and David Raasch and his wife, Andrea and their children, Alison and Natalie; a daughter-in-law, Mary Lee Raasch of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Ruth Hitt and her husband, Les of Sioux City; two nephews, Rick Edgcumbe and Leslie Hitt; and a nieces, Karla Whitiford.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Herman; an infant son, Richard; two brothers, Carl and Ed Kuklentz; and two sisters, Clara Edgcumbe and Olive Karras.
Pallbearers will be Mark, David, Kyle and Bill Raasch, Jason Langan and Jim Kolvek.
