SIOUX CITY -- Paul A. Prince, 91, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009 at a Sioux City hospital after a long-fought battle of lung and kidney disease.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2009 at St. Boniface Catholic Church with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military graveside rites by the U.S. Army Reserves. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a 7 p.m. vigil service, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to meyerbroschapels.com.
Paul was born Dec. 8, 1917 in Kankakee, Ill, the son of Paul A. and Emma (Lagesse) Prince. As an infant, his family moved to Salix, Iowa, where he spent his youth and graduated from St. Joseph High School. He then went to serve his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was stationed in the Aleutian Islands.
He married Irene (Hoffman) Montagne in 1972. Paul worked for Wilbert Burial Vault Company for 19 years and then for Calvary Cemetery after his retirement. His dedication and hard work were appreciated by all.
He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the American Legion, Monahan Post No. 64. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling, golf and sports. He especially loved watching the Cubs and Yankees baseball teams with his beloved cat, Fuzzy, by his side. Paul was an avid cribbage player and even in his later years could skunk the best of them. He enjoyed being around his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Irene of Sioux City; a son, Michael Prince of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Vickie Prince of Sioux City, and Linda Boyer and her husband, Don of North Sioux City; four stepchildren, Tim Montagne of La Pointe, Wis., Cyndi Unger and Bob Bohan of Sioux City, John Montagne and his wife, Deb of Charles City, Iowa, Mary Uber and her husband, Scott of Omaha; three sisters, Rita Krause, Betty Werkmeister and her husband, Bob, all of Sioux City, JoAnne Eriksen of Homer, Neb.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a baby brother, Earl; a baby sister, Irene; brothers, T.P. Prince, George, LeRoy and Bob; and sisters, Peg Krause, Mary Prince and Alice Naese.
Pallbearers will be Ken and Mark Krause, Tom, Tim and Terry Prince, Steve Eriksen and Bob Werkmeister.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Paul's name.
